A sample outreach letter to generate stakeholder support for a new Meatless Monday program.

Outreach Letter for Hospitals, Organizations and Foodservice

Dear ____,

I am interested in bringing Meatless Monday to (ADD NAME OF ORGANIZATION, OR INSTITUTION). I’ve been doing research and found that Meatless Monday is a simple way to introduce healthy and sustainable eating habits to people of all ages and backgrounds. Studies show that eating less meat each week can have major benefits that include a lower risk of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity as well as lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduced water usage, and improved soil quality.

It doesn’t take much to get a Meatless Monday program started. Many of the necessary resources and marketing materials are free to download and have been developed in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future. There’s also a Get Started with Meatless Monday 12-week campaign that’s easy to share digitally or to include as part of a wellness initiative or challenge.

Promoting plant-based and meat-free foods can help generate awareness about nutrition, sustainability, and environmental conservation. And in many cases, Meatless Monday can reduce foodservice operating costs, increase sales, support new or existing sustainability and wellness initiatives, and help meet the growing demand for plant-based meal options. And you don’t need to eliminate meat entirely from your menu, simply add more plant-based options and highlight them.

I suggest we set up a meeting with stakeholders to see how we can bring Meatless Monday to our (ADD NAME OF ORGANIZATION OR INSTITUTION). Here are some examples of how others have implemented Meatless Monday. It’s totally customizable based on capacity, preference, and goals. I’m excited to take the next steps forward!

Thank you,
