Organizations and Worksites

Meatless Monday is a global movement to help people around the world eat less meat and more fruits, vegetables, and healthy plant-based foods. Cutting out meat one day a week is not only good for your health and the health of the planet, but it’s also an incentive to try new ingredients, dishes, and cuisines. Organizations and worksites can use Meatless Monday to take advantage of the growing interest in meat-free and plant-based foods to introduce healthy eating habits to employees and staff.

How to get started:

  1. Understand the benefits: Review our benefits fact sheet to learn how Meatless Monday supports healthy eating habits, personal wellness, and environmental sustainability.
  2. Secure key stakeholder support: Submit a proposal to your company’s management, human resources, or sustainability team that recommends Meatless Monday as part of an environmental or wellness initiative or as an addition to your cafeteria menu. Use our sample outreach letter or create your own. Meatless Monday is most effective when it is both included in employee communications and featured in the on-site dining service. Contact your foodservice department to initiate the process and share our suggested menu terminology and best practices.
  3. Establish program goals: Create and customize a Meatless Monday program that aligns with employee expectations as well as your organization’s wellness and sustainability goals. Review success stories to learn how other organizations and worksites have implemented Meatless Monday. Remember, any program can be tailored to fit the capacity of your on-site foodservice operation, wellness campaign, or sustainability initiative.
  4. Raise awareness: Spreading the word is a crucial step to a successful Meatless Monday program. Use our library of free resources, which includes printable materials and social media assets, to help generate interest and buzz. Special events, like Earth Day or American Heart Month, can be used as a reason to host samplings or tastings of new plant-based menu options. Use our sample launch email to announce the program through any company-affiliated communication channels.
  5. Encourage at-home participation: Meatless Monday doesn’t have to be limited to the office. Use company email or intranet to distribute our 6-week newsletter, plant-based recipes, healthy eating guide, or Get Started with Meatless Monday 12-week campaign for employees to use at home.
  6. Survey: Better understand how employees and staff feel about Meatless Monday and plant-based foods with pre and post surveys.
